Reviewing CAD Files With Clients Without Making Them Buy Expensive Software

June 24, 2026 · Tim SyncCAD · 4 min read

A classic freelancer and CAD-team problem: the work is done, but client approval becomes the longest bottleneck in the process. Why? Because the client is asked to install expensive CAD software just to view one file and reply "looks good" or "please nudge this slightly".

Screenshots aren't the answer — they lose critical detail

The most common workaround today is sending a screenshot or PDF render. The problem: the client can't rotate, zoom into detail, or check dimensions themselves. Feedback becomes slow and prone to misunderstanding because the client is judging from a limited viewpoint.

A review link with an in-browser 3D viewer

A better approach: send a link that opens an interactive 3D viewer directly in the client's browser — no install, no account required. The client can rotate, zoom, and leave comments pinned to a specific point on the model, instead of ambiguous text like "the hole on the top right".

  • SyncCAD review links can have an expiry date and a custom message.
  • Clients don't need to log in — just open the link in any browser, including mobile.
  • Comments are stored directly on the file's thread, keeping revision history and approvals in one place.

The result: a review cycle that normally takes days of back-and-forth email can wrap up in a single session, because the client can actually "see" the model instead of guessing from a static image.
